LS9-Powered Fastlane Chevy Silverado Preview - Motor Authority

Why would someone want to go and stick the engine from the Corvette ZR1 in so homely and ill-handling a chassis as the Chevrolet Silverado pickup? We don't know, and we don't really care, because it's bound to be awesome.

No, we're not huge fans of pickups unless we need to move to a new house or tow a race car somewhere, but there's something horribly, fastastically right about a 638-horsepower supercharged pickup truck.

It's by no means the first or even the fastest uber-truck to be built, and we don't actually have all the facts and figures on it yet--GM Performance Parts dropped this teaser image on its Facebook page, hinting at "more to come...," but we're looking forward to seeing the beast in action. Being built by Houston-based tuner shop Fastlane, the pickup is teased as possibly the only Silverado with such an engine. We would think so.

But what do you think? Is this project a waste of a great engine? Would you rather see it strapped across the driver's lap in a tube-framed Lotus 7 clone? Or does you garage call out for this generous slice of Americana?
