The 5.2L "Voodoo" flat-plane crank V8 and track-honed chassis of the GT350 make it a modern legend. While exceptional out of the box, targeted upgrades can enhance its capabilities for both street and track.
While the high-revving Voodoo engine is a masterpiece, adding a supercharger is the ultimate power upgrade, transforming the car into a tire-shredding supercar competitor.
Key Consideration
The engine’s high RPM and compression require a conservative, safe tune (typically 550–650 whp) to preserve reliability. Major supporting mods are not always mandatory but are highly recommended.

Whipple, VMP, Roush, and ProCharger offer complete positive-displacement (roots/twin-screw) kits specifically designed for the GT350’s unique architecture.
Critical Supporting Upgrades
- Fuel System: Upgrade fuel pumps (e.g., DW400) and injectors to support increased demand.
- Cooling: A larger or auxiliary heat exchanger for the supercharger coolant is vital to prevent heat soak and power loss.
- Clutch: The factory clutch may struggle with the increased torque. McLeod and SPEC offer strong upgrade options.
- Exhaust: An aftermarket cat-back or header-back system helps the engine breathe more efficiently under boost.
The GT350’s MagneRide suspension is excellent from the factory, but certain components can be optimized for specific use cases.
- Springs & Sway Bars: Lowering springs (Swift, Ford Performance) or adjustable sway bars (BMR, Steeda) reduce body roll and allow fine-tuning between street comfort and track rotation.
- Alignment & Corner Weighting: An aggressive track alignment (maximum negative camber) and professional corner balancing are cost-effective modifications with significant performance gains.
- Bushings & Cradle Lockout: Upgrading control arm bushings and installing a differential or rear cradle lockout kit (BMR, Steeda) eliminates wheel hop and improves rear-end precision, especially under hard acceleration.
- Brakes: While the factory 394 mm Brembo brakes are excellent, track pads (Carbotech, Ferodo), stainless steel brake lines, and high-temperature brake fluid are essential for repeated hard use.
Wheels: Lighter forged wheels (e.g., Forgeline, APEX) reduce unsprung weight, improving acceleration, braking, and turn-in. Wider front wheels (19×11” square setups are popular) allow for more tire options.
Tires: Upgrading to a 200-treadwear extreme-performance tire (Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2, Goodyear Supercar 3R) or a modern max-performance summer tire (Michelin PS4S) is the single biggest handling improvement.
Aero: Functional front splitter extensions and a rear swan-neck wing (e.g., APR, Anderson Composites) improve high-speed stability and front-to-rear aerodynamic balance without excessive drag.
